Raw shaft length Surewoods? 32 1/2"?
« on: May 11, 2014, 11:12:00 AM »
Does anyone know what the full length raw shaft is for Surewoods? I need a finished arrow that is 32" to back of point. Been using arrow Dynamics tapered carbon for years. This morning I happened on an older Rouge River tapered cedar in my junk bucket that was 32" back of point. It flys exactly like my black Arrow Dynamics. It's been a long time since I made up a set of woodies. Mostly trying to find them long enough and the cost of replacements when they break and traveling in different weather conditions makes carbon better for me.
With the set-up I use now it appears a tapered fir wood be interchangeable with my carbons  . I  really should have a set of wood arrows around. Still my favorite.

I recently purchased some Wapiti Doug Fir from Tim at Braveheart and they were 33" OAL.  Holler at him and see if he has any more.

The longest shaft that we make is 32" that will give you a 31" BOP.  Steve

I gave up on finding longer shafting and just started making my own.  Started to read everything I could get my hands on about arrows and arrowsmithing and just started making them. So far I have been pleased with my results and continue to get better and better. Maybe even hope to sell some in the future for people with longer draws.

Google "Reparrow" It is the easiest and most economical way to make a 35" shaft from a 32" shaft. Check it out.   :campfire:

As Rob and Scott mentioned our tapered Wapiti POC is 33" long and that is with the nock taper already cut.  They should yield at least a 32" bop arrow, maybe a hair more depending on your point taper.

Our Surewoods are 32" untapered just as Steve said of course, he should know ha ha so looking at about 31" bop max there.

There used to be Poplar I think (?) shafting available that was 36" long I think but now I've forgotten who had it.  Rudderbows maybe?

Braveheart - Do you ever get any tapered Wapiti POC in 85-90 spine?

Ted, I doubt you'll find any POC from any source that is that high in spine.

I used to get them from Rouge River. I guess these are the reasons I use carbon!

I'm sorry, no we don't.  In all honesty demand for the Wapiti shafts exceeds supply and we have a hard time keeping the more commonly used spines in stock.
