Flashlight Question
« on: May 20, 2014, 11:29:00 PM »
Looking to consolidate lighting insturments in my kit.
I've used a headlamp for several years, but miss having a flashlight, too, on occasion. TG members pointed me to the Fenix PD35 flashlight and it looks great, but I would like to be able to use it as a headlight, too, and that way only have to carry the one light in my haversack. Upon checking with Fenix I discovered that they do indeed offer a headstrap to convert their flashlights to headlights, but it doesn't fit the PD 35 model.
Can anyone point me to sources of headstraps for flashlights?
Thanks.

As you have found, the only headbands to convert flashlights to "head" lights that I've found are for Maglite diameters. I have one and use it for to walking to/from my stand and a high-lumen LED in my pocket for blood trailing.  You can buy the colored filters for the Maglites.

I have had one of the Wensel's Fenix models for a long long time and I just use the elastic type bands made for the smaller Maglites,. . .  and they work fine.

Regardless of what you choose, might want to consider carrying a back-up.  Batteries wear out and bulbs do fail.

Seems like a person could go down to Joanne's Fabrics and buy material for a strap (elastic or whatever else), buckles of choice, and a bit of velcro, and make a head strap.  Wrap the Velcro around the flashlight and stick it on the headband Velcro.  Or make a simple elastic loop to go on the headband that would fit your flashlight.
Life is a whole lot easier when you just plow around the stump.

Thanks for the input. The concensus seems to be that there is not a headband for the larger than Mini-Maglite diameter.
Archie, I'm going to do some checking on your suggestion.

This fits the PD 30 and a variety of different sizes. Mine has two elastic bands that looks like it would fit down to a penlight size

I didn't realize the niteize band had two sizes of loops. I'm still not convinced though that it will handle the 25.4 mm diameter of the PD35 Fenix light.

I wear a cheap LED headlamp to field dress deer in the dark or other camp chores because they are CHEAP and effective and they tilt down and sit at the perfect angle and fits over my hat.

I carry a Fenix PD32 Ultimate for walking through the woods in the dark to see markers and blood trails. I don't think it would be comfortable or practical to wear this thing on my head.

Geeze, didn't realize I replied 3 times last night!!

This is a pic of the PD32 in the nite ize headband. The pd32 is 24mm and I was able to shove a nock under the elastic so I'd bet that the pd35 would fit. It would be tight, but it would fit.

I am with reddogge on this one. Like him I use a cheaper brand headlight for hands free field dressing, and use a Fenix E21 Flashlight to get in and out at dark.

Mine is an older Fenix P3D and I have it on a headband that looks a lot like Swampdrummer's (nite ize brand).  Works perfectly

OK first... Go Back to Fenix's website and search around they do sell a headlite, I cant think of the model right off hand, it takes 3 AA batteries in a battery pack that mounts to the back of the headband/strap assy to balance it out. It is a little more expensive, but only you can put a price on safety and convenience. I have had mine for over a year now and use it just about everyday. It has several different brightness levels.IMO it is the best Hands Down.

Good info, all!
Swampdrummer, thanks for the clear picture. I agree, I think the PD35 would fit the niteize band.
Motorhead, I will check out the Fenix headlite.

I love the fenix headband with its adjustablity and how it keep teh heat from the light away from your head.

I use and love eagletac flashlights.

Cehck out my podcast in the signature and watch the bowfishing equipment video and you can see the eagle tac light in the fenix headband.

Awesome set up.

The eagle tac dc25c is a single cell cr123 (400 lumens)  the dc25Lc2 is the 2 cr123 (800 lumens) and both fit the fenix headband perfectly.

Just got word from Niteize that their headband will fit up to at least a 28mm diameter flashlight.
