time to build a Bear trad bow?
« on: May 28, 2014, 07:09:00 PM »
Does anyone have any idea how many hours of factory production time it takes to complete a Bear Traditional bow?

My Grandson was wondering if I knew.

I thought I had read something on it once, but don't know where.

Thanks.

Now you've got me curious. My internet searches netted me zilch. He might think these videos are pretty neat though. :archer2:

I think the bows are made by several workers with each performing a specific job (laminating, shaping grip, cutting nocks, sanding, spraying, etc.).  The total time per bow would depend on how many workers were employed.

FYI, a Bear historian states over 350,000 bear bows were made in 1975 alone, so that makes almost 1,000 a day.  My guess is they were working 24/7 back then, and Bear is obviously not doing that kind of work today.

That would be kind of hard to determine since they were built by many people doing different parts of the construction. Plus you have to add all the prep work in cutting out riser blanks, laminate blanks, limb cores, etc.

a few years ago my wife and I were able to tour the Jeffery archery shop. There is no way that it only takes 4-5 hrs to build a bow. I would guess about 4 days.
