Small crack on bow limb, what to do?
«

I was packaging a bow up to mail to a gentleman for a trade. I haven't taken it apart in along time but shoot it weekly. When I unbolted the lower limb I noticed a crack running underneath on the part that joins the riser. Not wide or deep but can be felt with finger nail. I immediately sent him pictures.
Is there anything that can be done about this? Or am I out of luck on these limbs?

Usually you can run thin superglue into the crack to stop it from advancing. If it's running lengthwise it should not be a problem.

I fixed a bad crack in a K-Mag limb with loctite 420. It showed front and back running length wise on the lower limb just about where the Bear and patent info are located. I filled both sides twice with the loctite and let it dry. It's not pretty but it's shootable again...at least so far.
I'm not a bowyer or any type of an expert on this stuff though. That was just something I tried and I shoot it at my own risk.

I had a set like that, bought the bow used, the limbs were about 5 years old, sent them back to the bowyer and he fixed them-no idea how but it was perfect. Just another reason to deal with a bowyer who is also a sponsor here.

Usually those type of cracks are caused by overtightening the limb bolts on takedown bows. locktite should do it.

What loctite is best for this kind of repair

Everybody seems to swear by Loctite 420. It pulls it's self into a crack. It's expensive and you have to order it. I've made repairs on two bows with it and it works extremely well.

Any retailers carry the Loctite 420? Like a brick and mortar chain? I've looked in several local retailers and have yet to find it.

I couldn't find it anywhere local. Do a little searching online before you order. I can't remember where I ordered mine from but it was quite a bit cheaper there than the place i was recommended to buy from.
