Let's talk short bows (not recurves)
« on: June 21, 2014, 09:42:00 PM »
Particularly interested in hybrids/longbows....recurves not so much.

With a 29" draw, I've found that I like a 60" Centaur and a 58" Kanati.  I would probably like a 58" Centaur also but it has been a few years since I shot one and it was a bit heavy for me. I've also shot a Thunderchild that I liked...56" if I recall correctly.

Any other good choices out there? I know there are, but I'd love some feedback. Pictures would be nice as well.

I'm about to take delivery of a Stewart Lil Slammer 56" built for my 29"ish draw and Leon vouches it will pull clean to 30" w/zero stack.  Expect a full review and pics.  Also I won the St. Jude's Java Man bow build so a 56" 2pc Elkheart is also on the way.

I personally love the 56" Thunderchild.  I actually beat my best 3D score with my 68" Slammer by 10pts with a 56" TC recently and blew my own mind LOL.  A 56" Centaur if around 45# or less will actually pull to 30".  I can vouch the 58" in any weight is just dandy for a 29" draw.

Javaman Elkheart, 58" of crazy smooth. 56" would work too but I like the crazy smooth the 58" offers. Much smoother then the 62" Centaur I had.

Looks to me like you are already shooting short bows! I don't own one under 62"!

Can't beat the Shrew Classic Hunter. I have a 30" draw and have been shooting the Classic Hunter ever since Ron introduced them to the world. I have owned the 52,54&56 inch versions but my favorite is the 54" at 54@29.
For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.

The Javaman Elkheart and Falcon bows are very nicely made, and have a very good reputation.  Having shot a Falcon quite a bit, I can vouch for their smoothness and stability.  Gregg Coffey, their creator and builder, is a fantastic guy to deal with.

I really like my Dry Creek Bow Company Brush Wolf. I've got the 56" which is very smooth with no stack at my 28" DL, but it is rated to 29". He also makes it in a 58" which I'm sure would work for ya. His shop is only about 70 miles north of you. Send him an email through his web page and he's more than happy to have you come up and shoot some bows. Heck, if I'm off, I'll come out and let you shoot mine.

TN Song Dog here, new to the site.

I've got an older 58" Shrew that is great. Would love to have shrew classic hunter 56". Heard lots of good about them.
