Been a recurve guy for a while (Damonhowatt 55# hunter and Bear 50# Kodiak)getting close to letting the string slip on a longbow. Shoot 3 under and was wondering about noise, handshock, and grip both recurves are production with factory grips, although I kinda like the Bear better, thinking about a 62" around 50# spirit longbow any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to remain a three under shooter, you may be better off ordering a longbow tiller for three under shooting.  Some bowyer s like Steve from Northern Mist longbows are pretty good at custom tillering for three under.

I have mostly recurves as well, but I shoot 3 under with a Bear Montana and love it! I probably shoot that bow better than my recurves LOL Having a custom tillered bow is nice, but I just set my nock a little higher and get pretty clean flight.

You can't go wrong with a Bryan Holley Spirit longbow.  I shoot a Spirit bow at about 53# at my draw length.  I also shoot three-under like you.  The bow is quiet and calm.  I absolutely love the handle on a Spirit longbow.  You won't notice that the bow is not tillered for three finger under shooting.

In my experience, a Toelke Whip or a Centaur makes for a very quiet longbow when shooting 3 under.

I shoot 3 under on my centaurs and they are very quiet, zero hand shock and recurve fast.

I am a recurve shooterand shoot 3-under, and also shoot 3 under with my 62"-53#  longbow. The longbow is dead quiet with three under, standard tiller.

Thanks for all the help, pretty sure going to call RMS about a spirit, not quite as much as some as the others and having always been a recurve guy little afraid to invest too much in a longbow and end up not liking it, although kinda have a hunch once I get one I'll be hooked. Thanks again.

Depending on your drawlength, I have a Bushbow in the classifieds I shot three under. Quiet and smooth.

I shoot my Hills and Big Jim's three under. I had one tillered for three under, the rest are standard, I can't tell the difference. Handshock is more subjective, that's harder to give good info on. I've shot very few bows that had shock that was troubling.

 If you're not in a big hurry to buy, Denton Hill (ETAR)is coming in late July and you can shoot many different bows there.

 Warning, longbows can be addicting!!

Yep, been thinking about Denton , but really want to start shooting soon, want to see how much different the longbow will be from the recurves and get comfortable with it before the acorns start dropping and the rubs start showing up. Live a little north of Ebensburg right on top the dividing ridge of the mountains.

Ok now I'm pretty sure am going to Denton Hill, think shooting a few different bows and getting a feel for which style I like is a smart move, although I do have one question, do most of the vendors want cash or can I use a credit card if I find one I must have, would rather not have to carry a lot of cash if I don't have to.

I sure get tired of hearing about "custom tillering for 3 under shooters".... Why?  because it's hog-wash is what it is.... You balance the limbs to the pressure point on the grip, and raise or lower the string nock to adjust for split, or 3 under... The term "Tillering for 3 under" was invented by a shooter, not a bowyer....

If i have a customer ask me if i can tiller his bow for 3 Under, i say "Sure...No problem".... When the guy sells the bow, and the new owner calls and asks if he can shoot the same bow using split finger, i say... "Sure, No problem.... just lower the string nock a fuzz, and find the sweet spot in the grip being high or low pressure point, and you are good to go..."
