Can you buy a Hoyt Dorado riser only?
«

I've read posts that suggest that the limbs that come with the Dorado are fair at best so I was wondering if it is possible to buy only the riser. Also, how do Black Max WOOD/GLASS limbs compare to the Dorado's stock limbs. If they are comparable then I would be just as happy with the stock limbs.

Yes you can buy the riser only through several places. I think 3 rivers will sell the riser only. I know Lancaster archery will.
I can't help you with the performance question.

I do not know if you will see that much difference in the Black Max wood/glass. You may notice a difference in the carbon/glass.
I shot a Dorado with stock limbs just yesterday at a shoot and had more than one person say how well it performed. I do believe Hoyt's Dorado limbs are underrated.
Good Shooting,
Craig

Do they sell a conversion kit to make a dorado ilf compatible? I thought they used propietary limbs.

I wouldn't let the hoyt limbs scare you. Hoyt's been in this game a longtime and they have it figured out.
Big bad john,
you can press out the ilf bushing from the limb and press in the hoyt bushing. No problem. In fact I use some small pvc plumbing pipe for the bushings. Works great and 5 bucks will get you a lifetime supply at Home Depot.
The dorado is a great shooting bow IMO.

I shoot a Hoyt Tiburon with formula limbs myself. The bushing is in the same place as an ilf limbs you'd think they'd just mill it for the ilf limbs and forget it. Does the same thing work with the Gamemaster?

I shoot a Dorado, the Hoyt limbs are just fine. I'm sorry, but people worry too much about this stuff.

The great thing about a Dorado riser is that it is not an ILF riser. No adjusting, nothing. You put your limbs in place, tighten them down
and your good to go. If a guy wants to shoot ILF limbs it is a lot simpler to just buy an ILF riser.
I shoot them both, but as time goes on I can see the ILF leaving the stable as I use the Dorado more and more.
Good Shooting,
Craig

Forget the BM wood/glass limbs. You won't notice much difference from the stock limbs. Get some BM carbon/woods, they are WAY lighter than either of the other limbs, smoother, and quieter. Press out the ILF bushings and go to town!

I put a set of carbon wood limbs on my riser and it's one bad bow now.

A question for you guys that are swapping out the stock limbs, if you replace them with the same length limb, where do they fall in reference to what the poundage on the limb says they are.
Let me state that a little more clearly. Let's assume that your stock limbs are shorts and you replace them with shorts that say 50@28".
What is the actual weight showing with the replacements?
Good Shooting,

TT limbs are rated on a 17" riser. Dorado is 19". Will lose approximately 2# over what's marked on the TT, but this is not always an exact science, just a rule of thumb.

Craig,
I've never checked the poundage with the other limbs but they feel like there around 5 lbs over whats marked for a 23 inch riser. I have some old hoyt c plus limbs on my dorado that makes it around 55# and they shoot really well. I picked the riser up on a whim and mated these limbs to it and came up with one of the best shooting bows ever for myself.
Good luck.

So the limb angle sounds as though it may not be much different on the Dorado riser?????

Based on the poundage gain I would think that's reasonable Craig. I've never compared the risers though.

Thanks for the comments and advice. I had a Pinnacle with the B.M. wood glass limbs that I liked so if the stock limbs are about the same then I will just stick with them. Appreciate the comments.
