Dueling Diablo's
« on: July 01, 2014, 06:19:00 PM »
Last year I was bitten by the vintage bow bug, Howatts in particular. So I purchased a 1974 Super Diablo and hunted with it part-time last season. just this week I picked up what I believe is a 1964 Diablo that needed a little TLC. Here  are a few pics of the two side by side. The Super D is on the left.

Damon Howatts are my favorite vintage bows, and those two are beautiful! I like the grip shape better on the Diablo.  I have a Super D like yours but it needed a refinish so I reshaped the grip to more of a medium wrist when I did that.
Great shooting old bows!

Beautiful bows Fred...I could never afford a Super Diablo when they came out...LOL...I was bitten by the Wood arrow bug again and have 2 dz ready for the fall. In fact...I'm going to tote my old Browning Cobra around this fall along with the Kempf and Fedora. Good luck with those bows....

Fred, Those are beauties.  You should have bought one left handed one so you could shoot them both at the same time.   :saywhat:    ;)

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

Joe,The Diablo is definitely going to get some time in the woods this fall. It is a sweet shooter to boot. I was contemplating using woodies out of it but my carbons are flying so well I'll probably use them. Besides the carbons are pink  LOL

Very nice bows,I have some old DH myself but currently are a little too low in poundage for my liking,so I keep them for my older days.

Keefer, The strike plate was made by a guy that makes repro Bear side plates and quiver inserts. I have his name somewhere if you're interested.

2 sweet bows you have there! I have a Hi-Speed that looks very similar to your Diablo from around the same year. These bows can flat out shoot with the best of em!
