Procedure For Removing Inscriptions?

From past threads I believe I understand the procedure for removing inscriptions on limbs. Let me run it by to make sure.  

From what I understand, incriptions are written on with a Sharpie over a base coat of finish, then a second coat of finish is applied over it.

So the method is to carefully use fine steel wool to get through the first layer and remove the inscription, then re-finish over the area.

What type of finish is best to re-cover the area of the limb where it was removed?

NDTerminator, I have bows with inscriptions on them but I see them as part of the bow history, part of it's (spritual feel) you might say.

600 grit sandpaper also works well.  I use Helmsman Spar satin spray varnish or Deft satin spray varnish.  Can also get either brand in semigloss and gloss.  Don't shake the can too much before applying, or the carrier may leave a milky residue on the bow.  Then you need to take that off and start over.  Several very light coats will work best.  Good luck.

I don't disagree, particularly if the inscription had a name like Bear, Hill, or some other luninary of the bowhunting word.

I have a 58" Hunter II riser on order for an extra set of limbs I have on hand, and and I'm going to change the inscription to reflect the draw weight, length, and bow model...
