Sending Limbs back to Black Widow
« on: July 09, 2014, 10:49:00 PM »
Any advice on shipping limbs back to Black Widow?  Need advice on box, USPS or UPS.

Thanks;

A good heavy box with strips of card board on both sides of each limb cut same depth as the inside of the box will protect the limbs individually and support the box. I then stuff the rest of the box with wadded up newspaper.

Either method of shipping will work, just be sure to insure them for their value. USPS is probably a little cheaper.

A good rigid box and packaging material to keep the limbs from rattling inside the box. Spend the extra $$ on insurance.

Roll them up in bubble wrap, fold the ends over and tape and fill the box with newspaper.  Mail them Priority Mail with the extra insurance.

Can't beat the packaging advice you've already gotten. Sent my Widow back for refinish via UPS. Got there safe and sound. TonyZ.

I sent mind back wrapped in bubble wrap and packed with crumpled up newspaper inside of an arrow box. Ship priority and insure.

Also, you can cut cardboard into strips and roll them up to make pillars that are the same height as the interior if your shipping carton. Tape them into place on both sides of the limbs.

I buy the black insulation for pipes 1 1/2" or 2" and slide the limbs into the tube.  Place in a heavy cardboard box and ship via USPS (Not UPS).  Best of luck.  BTW...How's the Whip working for ya?  Hope you enjoy it.

I saw a tutorial by Brandon Stahl. Trad Archers.com he explains how he makes boxes for shipping his one piece bows and limb sets.
I have used the arrow box method mentioned above as well. No issues.

Thanks guys.  I had a large box that I cut down and made a right size box. Wrapped the limbs in mucho bubble wrap, cut some cardboard the width of the limbs for "beam" support, taped it on, stuffed it with newspaper. And of course, took out the insurance.

I think it should make the trip via USPS now. Wealth of knowledge on this site and people willing to step up to help.  Thank you again.

M60 gunner, do you have that tutorial?  It may help someone in the future. Can you post it?

Doug, everyone that picks up my Whip wants to buy it. It is an amazing bow.

The tutorial is on Tradarchers.com a web site started by Brandon Stahl of Rose Oak bows. I do not think it would be legal to copy and paste it here? But this thread will not go away and if needed a search would bring it up for someone who needs it.
The Widow guys work some pretty neat magic when they refinish limbs or risers.
