Ok, next question... Wood choices paired w/Micarta risers
« on: July 10, 2014, 09:59:00 PM »
I'm considering a two piece with bow bolt design....that requires micarta in the riser.

What wood do you think would complement micarta for the riser?

What wood do you think would look good as limb veneers?

You obviously know what I like LOL.

As for another combo...

How about some Bastogne or Claro Walnut in the riser...

And some Carpathian Elm Burl limb veneers?

And Bighorn Sheep riser and tip accents or something similar.

Two extremely different options.  1. Cocobolo, the red and brown tones look great with black. 2. Birds eye or quilted maple for major contract with black and high end look.  But as a lady might say, anything goes with black.

I have a '68 Super Kodiak.  Micarta with Rosewood horns that looks good together.

Macassar ebony/micarta riser and black limba veneers perhaps? Should make for a dark bow but it'd pop when the sunlight hits the grain just right.

I would go with good quality yew for the limbs so no need for veneers...but then I am a sucker for nice yew

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

I think myrtle limb veneers look great with phenolic or a dark wood riser. Could even add some myrtle accents in the riser. The lighter color in the myrtle gives good contrast but it also has some wild looking dark grain. Myrtle is probably my favorite limb veneer at the moment.
