Art Young low crown style hat?
« on: July 16, 2014, 11:57:00 PM »
Does anyone here have one of these hats from 3 Rivers Archery? If so how do you like them, does the bill fold out of the way easily while shooting? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sorry, I don't have one but have checked out the comments and reviews and folks are generally pretty positive.  I believe it's flexible enough to easily fold out of the way.

If just a light touch of the bowstring bothers you, you can wet down the brim and "train" it to fold up slightly.  See pics of Fred Asbell or some old pics of Art Young himself.

Good price on the hat and says "Made in USA".

I have one.  The Brim is big enough that my string hits it no matter what length bow I shoot.

Its relatively light but to thick for warmer weather IMHO.  Its too thin for cold weather so I only end up wearing it a couple times per year.

It blocks the sun and shields the rain.

Its not a bad hat for the price but If I had to do it again I would get a  shorter brimmed hat as it bothers me when the string folds the brim out of the way.

I don't think it is easily shapeable but it does crush up in a pack nicely.

Thanks for the replies, I shot with my step Dad's hat the other day that is kinda the same style it didn't bother me when the string touched the brim as it folded back very easily but wasn't sure how easy this hat would fold.
The string touching the brim wouldn't affect my shot would it?

The String toughing the Brim only affects the shot if its in your head.  It doesn't interfere with any physical aspect of the shot.

This hat's brim folds out of the way very easily but is sturdy enough to stay rigid during a heavy rain.
