What sander is best for the novice bowyer shop

I am looking at a oscillating spindle sander or a drill press and mount various size drums.  Also what models do you recommend.

Thanks
Matt

The Delta BOSS is a good little spindle sander, they work a lot better for sanding than a drum in a drill press. I used one for many years and its still going strong! Around $200

I like the Rigid ocillating table belt sander. Comes with different size spindles and you get a belt sander as well.

Draco, I heard the plate that adjusts to 45 degrees on the Rigid did not hold tight and that getting new sanding sleeves is difficult?  What is your experience?  Does it do both functions well?

I have a rigid ocilating sander.  Home depot sells the sleeves.  You can buy the sleeves from 3rd parties.  Super Grit has plenty of sanding supplies

I have the 1/3 hp from grizzly for $155 delivered. I bought it when I first started building bows. I have since upgraded all of my equipment because when I started I went cheep. Now I have all griz accdept my 1hp belt sander from Harbor freight (the delta I started with made it less than a year and they wanted $155 to fix it (paid $239) So i bought the chinese model new for $160 and love it. I have not however needed to upgrade the cheep griz spindle sander however. It has the power to get the job done and hasnt had any problems in two years. I use 36 grit sleeves for most of the shaping and then finish with a palm sander.

I like my grizzly as well. Solid and has a variety of drum sizes. Also light enough to be portable. Steve
