Are my arrows heavy enough?
« on: August 07, 2014, 10:35:00 PM »
I am shooting CE heritage 150's cut to 29" with standard insert and 125 grain points on the front and a 5" wrap on the back with 3 5" feathers. I am shooting a Black Widow PCH 49# @ 27" which is what I draw, they flew great out to 20 yards bare shaft but I'm a little concerned I don't have enough weight. Any thoughts?

What is the overall weight of the arrow?

I'm not sure what the total weight is, the shaft, insert, and point is 426 grains. I have no idea what the wrap, feathers, and nock weigh.

You're real close to 450 grains. You don't mention what broad head or what if anything you intend to hunt. I prefer a little heavier arrow for quietness but a well tuned 450 gr and a sharp 2 blade should get it done on deer size game.

I figure at least 9 or 10 grains per pound.  Ten grains per pound would be 490 gr.

You are fine for deer.....just worry about how to get a shot when the season opens.

My CE 150's are 29"1/2 stock inserts 125gr points 3x5" fletching. They scale 464gr so your at least that when you factor in your arrow wrap. Should be just right good luck.

I wouldn't hesitate unless it's loud then there are things you can do to fix that like limb savers, good string silencers etc, heavier arrow would work too, but if it isn't too loud what you have will work!

Thanks guys, now I can stop worrying about that.
It is a little loud but it's a new bow and I just assumed it was the bow, I will throw some limb savers and change my silencers as mentioned above and get ready to hit the woods.
Thanks again guys

More animals have been killed with your arrow weight than almost all others combined. You are all good. Practice and be ready for hunting season.
