Broadhead/feather combo
« on: August 14, 2014, 09:22:00 PM »
I'm considering trying some woodsman with 5" parabolic's on some new cedars. They should come in around 570 grains. I have the same set up with shield cut feathers which fly great. I'm curious if the parabolic cut will fly the same and get that big 3 blade head turning well as compared to the shield cut.. Is anyone shooting that set up and if so how do they fly?

I don't think you will notice a difference so shoot the shape you prefer. The only thing you'll want to keep in mind is to make sure the fletch diameter is larger than the cutting diameter.

I doubt you will find any differerence in flight as long as the hielic is the same  ... The noise in flight may be different ... The parabolic feathers will fly more quietly.

Fletching is far more about surface area than it is about shape

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

Yes it is.. that was my point because of the shield cut shape they have a bigger surface area and may get it spinning faster coming out of the bow. They look nice and fly great just don't like the noise and size. I have always preferred parabolic.

They should work the same.  I have done it.  Not much cost in trying the parabolic...just some fletching right?
