Removing Blazer Bonded Inserts - Help!
«

I just received some new arrows and failed to tell the guy that built them not to install the inserts. He put them in with Blazer Bond and I need to get them out to install my heavy brass inserts.
If you have done this and know what to do then please let me know. I tried heating them up and got one out but the second would not turn loose and I fear I have damaged the carbon by getting it so hot.
Will anything break the Blazer Bond loose?
Thanks,
James

How did you heat them? Have you tried to heat up a field point and try to pull out the insert? What carbon arrows are these? I also have used a drill bit method.Pull out the nock and get a drill bit that just fits inside and whip it towards the floor nocking the insert out from the back end. It's like a reverse slide hammer. With this method I like to wad up a blanket on the floor to catch the insert and drill bit as they will come flying out if this method works.

I heated up the field point with a torch. One broke loose but the second one only came out half way. I have 5 more to do so I need to figure something out.
These are GoldTip Velocity XT 500.

Sounds like you're on the right track... I will put on a 300 grain field point and keep the heat on the field point. I have been able to remove any inserts using this method without damaging the arrow. Good Luck!!!!

Be careful of the drill bit method with carbon arrows I have had the arrow come apart as the insert comes out

I will go after it again but I had to get it so hot to loosen up on the first one that it seems to have affected the carbon. At least slightly. I worry cause this Blazer Bond stuff is tough.
Cheers,

I use the drill bit method alot when I want an insert out. Make sure you have the non-cutting end toward the insert. If you are careful you can tap your insert close to popping out and then not whip it so hard and keep it from flying out and bouncing across the room.
