Servign size and recommendations for B-50 or B-55 string
« on: September 02, 2014, 12:14:00 PM »
Hey I just bought a older bow and the manufacturer specs 16strands of B-50 Dacron. First, is it safe to use the lower stretch B-55?

Secondly, what's you're best guess on proper serving size, and material suggestions? Will likely be fitting standard easton carbon arrow nocks ... although I have a bunch of Bonhing classic nocks and wood shafts that I could use if 16strand is going to be too large for standard carbon nocks.

I would make a 14 strand b50 or b55 and serve it with a .025.

I would be willing to bet that this will get you very close.  I just made a 14 strand b55 with .025 and it fit my gold tip nocks perfectly.

What is the draw weight?

B-55 will be fine.

Serving size will depend on how many strands you use.  I like Halo or 62XS, but the new BCY PowerGrip looks promising.

I bought my last spool of serving from Chad at the Tenn. Classic. It says 400multi on the spool. The color is camo. I use 14 strand B-50 or B-55 on most of the bows I build.

Think the strand size is slightly different.  55 is a little stronger.

I find that B55 is slightly larger diameter per strand then B50.With a 14 strand B50 or B55 I serve with a 1D .019 or BCY No 62 .018 for nock fit.It will depend on how many strands and nocks you are using?

Never used b-55 but I make a 14 strand b-50 string and I either use .19 1D or .19 halo, they fit my full metal jacket nocks perfect!

I have a b-55 14 strand served with .019 halo from Oliverstacy.

Fits an easton super nock ( the type that came with the beman bowhunters) slightly tight.

...but they fit my idea of perfect after I use a 6" mill file and run it through the nock a few times...
