Purpleheart and osage orange - Any pictures?
«

After several years of trying different bows (thanks, classifieds
), I have a good idea of the specs I'd seek in a custom longbow, as far as length, limb, draw weight/length, etc. For looks, I have a notion that I'd like to have a riser of purple heart with limbs (veneers) of osage orange. If anyone has pictures of a bow like this, I'd be grateful to see pictures of it.

Hey Jim, don't have any pics, but I was visiting the Widow
Boys yesterday and saw a Curve they had drying in the paint room. Made mention to Toby that I had never seen this combination before, he said they hardly ever made them.
It's really hard to imagine the purple and yellow together,
But it was stunning. Real eye catcher for sure.

Purpleheart will darken and Osage will turn amber if exposed to the sun, so the contrast as it ages may not be as striking when new.

This is one I just made for the bow swap here.
Lacewood, Purple Heart, Osage, with white glass accents.

That IS a good looking now, for sure. I found a picture in the powwow archives, and as Steve mentioned, the contrast was less striking in a 20 year old boww. Still, I'm tempted.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Here's a few I took before the build started, while I was trying to figure out what to do. You can see the darker colors and contrast of the aged wood. Albeit with no finish applied.

I have 2 bows that have osage and purpleheart in the riser. One that is about 6 years and one that is 6 months. Great combination and even after the osage darkens, it looks great.
