Been lurking for a couple of weeks.  I talked to Joel Smith a few weeks ago about recurve and long bows.  I've been looking at a Bear Grizzly. I've been shooting a PSE with training wheels for a couple of years.  Found it to be to easy, No challenge.  I see these bowhunters on the hunting shows with the compound bow shootin at their target and getting worked up like they have achieved something.

I started out in 1966 with a Ben Pearson Super Jet bow, cat. no 336.  It's an orange and white fiberglass bow.  It came with a rubber bow quiver qith 3 wood arrows and 3 bladed stamped broadheads. It's a 45# bow.  I've put a few hours at the hay bales with it.  Tried stalking deer in 1966 with it.  Saw a few deer but out of bow range.

Well since I've been lurking, I have dug out the old Ben Pearson, and started slinging arrows again with it.  I'm using 2217's with it but on some shots ihe arrow butt will kick to the right and hit about a foot to the left of the target at 10 yard. I guess the arrow is to light for the bow.  I had this same problem playing golf.  They called it a slice or something like that.

The arrows are over spined for the bow. Welcome back and stop by the shooters forum for some advice on tuning the bow up.

Blackhat, Welcome. My personal opinion would be that the 2217's are too heavy/stiff. I'd say try a 2016 or 1916 if you have access to 'em. The rest of it is form.

Also, what is your nock point and how do you anchor/shoot (i.e. three under? two under/one over? etc.). Post all that stuff here (and in the "shooters forum"), you'll get plenty of help.

Hard to go wrong with a Grizzly. Watch the classifieds on here for good fair prices.

Yep, as others mentioned above, you're over spined. We just need some more details about your setup to help get you where you want to be.

I agree with the others about your arrows. 2016's should work depending on your draw length and the point weight. I cut them to 30" BOP, and with 125 grains up front, they shoot like darts from my 48@28 Kota. I would think, unless you have a much shorter draw, they would work in your 45. My daughter is shooting 30" 2213's from her 45 pound Black Bear, but she probably only draws 26".

Traditional is simple, sort of. There are a number of things you can do to shoot better. Once you find the right combination, it sure looks simple to the casual observer. You don't have to worry about loose screws, bent sight pins, rest malfunctions and so forth, because you won't have any of them.

One word of warning: this sport is very addictive!
