3rd Trad Season
« on: September 09, 2014, 07:50:00 PM »
Well this weekend will be my 3rd season shooting a traditional bow.  Year one, I used a WARF and shot a doe and a small 7pt. Year two I used a Bear Grizzly and shot a nice doe.  This year, I will be using my Bear Montana longbow.  I have been shooting it since April and feel good out to 20 yards.  I have some Snuffers sharpened and ready to fly.  I was very nervous about giving up the compound but it has been the best thing for me. So far, I have not had a time where I wished I had my compound and it continues to collect dust in the basement.  Good luck to everyone this fall and thank you for all the information and help on this grand journey.

I am keeping the same goals as the last 2 years: My wife and I to have fun hunting together and for her to get a deer.  After that, it is all icing on the cake.

Good Luck Mathew. I hope your wife gets a big one.

What part of WI do you hunt?
Relax,

You'll live longer!

I bow hunt in Barron County. We have a good number of does on the land but few fawns after the hard winter.  We even have 3 nice bucks on camera.  I would love to see my wife get one of the nice bucks.

I am glad you are comfortable with the transition and don't regret giving up the wheels. I feel that guys who make the change are giving up technology in favor of woodsmanship and hunting prowess.

Wisconsinteacher - I'm I the same boat, I took up the longbow 3 years ago (love the Montana) and don't even own any compounds anymore.
Sam - that was my reasoning, you are right on the money. Truly it is a better 'sport'. All the gear of the wheelies started to feel like a tactical exercise, now it feels like hunting again. 'Hunting the Hard Way'
