What is this?

A guy had this advertised on that auction site as a "reverse handle" Howard Hill longbow. It sure looks like a lefty to me. What say you?














Not the best images, but intriguing none the less. It might be a righty, but it would not be the first bow I have seen online advertised as a right hand that was not. Is the Razorback a reverse handle longbow?

I'm not looking to buy, just want to learn something. I couldn't draw a 70 anymore anyway...not sure I ever could

It is a right handed bow.  The bow is a reverse handle meaning that most hill bows are built with the "meat of the wood" if you will facing the archer.  the handle is reversed with the majority of the wood put forward away from the archer.  Razorback is the model name of the bow.  A reverse handle bow in some peoples opinion is more forgiving of shooting errors.  Howard Hill shot one in his later years.

The nocks are cut right for the way it's strung. There are several reverse handle bows made. This one isn't made any longer that I know of though.

Go to the classifieds on this site in traditional bows and do a search for razorback and you can see another one of the "reverse handle bows".  It may be the same one.

I couldn't really tell from the pics and don't know much about Hill bows, but I always like to learn.

I have seen bows strung backwards before vermonster. I'm not doubting you guys, I just never underestimate the power of stupidity on the auction place. I have seen bows on that auction before that I KNOW were strung backwards. I've also seen them advertised as right hand bows because the shelf was on the right side...duh!

I've seen reverse handle bows before, but they were locator grip type bows rather than the Hill style, so I wasn't sure about this one.

Jeff, maybe I need to try one. I need lots of forgiveness!  :rolleyes:

It is the same bow. I don't know how it got from Hawaii to Ohio, but the serial number is the same. The pics here are better. I can see from the ones in the classifieds that it is strung correctly.

It's kind of a different look. I'd like to try shooting one sometime. I sure wouldn't need 70 pounds though! I don't need to drive my arrows any farther into the ground on the other side of the deer.

Most of the more "modern longbows" have a locator.  I used to have a longbow that was very similiar in grip to the razorback.  It was an Elburg Jaguar. It shot very well.  Typically a bow made like that will be very strong in the handle due to the I-beam style construction.  Anytime you cut through the fibergalss on the belly you will weaken the handle of the bow Vs. not cutting the glass.  This bow has a straight grip, no dish at least thats what it looks like from the photo.  I know what you mean about auctions posting thins that are incorrect.  Many if not most nonrevearse handle longbows will have the glass at the handle cut through for a dish or locator in the grip.

I bet it rode on a plane! LOL!  That bow is 70" long too.  I bet it is a smooth drawing 70#.  Reverse handle bow do shoot well.  Some of the other bows that are reverse are:

21st century longbow (if you get one buy a used Buddy and Jim bow)

Hornes traditionalist is a little bitty thin reverse handle built up with overlays on the belly to shape the grip.

These are Thunderhorn bows. They have a much more pronounced reverse than the ones you mentioned, but they have the locator type grip, unlike the Razorback.

I shot a razorback once. It shot really nice I just really didn't care for the way it looks like it's strung backwards even though it's not.
