Off the shelf?
« on: September 16, 2014, 02:29:00 PM »
So I have been shooting my Hoyt Dorado with a flipper rest 2 and a plunger button, arrows fly great and accuracy is there. A few days ago I decided to try shooting this bow off the shelf and I don't understand how but my groups shrunk big time, my gaps shrunk and it feels just great.. To me this is backwards, any rhyme or reason why i'm shooting better off the shelf then on a wire with a plunger?

Did you change your knocking point, to compensate for shooting off the shelf? could indicate you need to move your knocking point up when shooting off an elevated rest.

Just my first thought of many potential options.

weird story, i was shooting in my yard and i just got the idea to shoot it off the shelf. i use 2 nocking points so i just put the arrow on the shelf (it's a good radius and i put a strip of masking tape down just to try it) and nocked my arrow under the bottom nocking point... i was amazed they they flew great so i tried a bare shaft and it flew good and so i tried shooting through paper and i had a very slight nock high tear but it wasnt bad. i love the way it shoots right now. Honestly i would prefer the smaller gaps from shooting off the shelf then the larger gaps from my flipper rest.

sometimes its better no to try and reason with good results. sounds like you should stick with shooting off the shelf and enjoy all the benefits it has to offer.    :archer2:

Maybe you are just getting a better sight picture shooting off the shelf.  Shooting off the shelf is akin to pointing at an object with your pointer finger...its natural and easy to do in combination with your dominate eye.

I agree lol I took the plunger off and glued some slick leather on the shelf, I'm keeping the base of my flipper rest on because it has a nice radius to it and just happens to be perfect thickness, tied on some nocks and shot through paper again and it was perfect bullet holes... I love this new set up!!!

Not surprised. Arrow is right on top of your hand. Hand points at the target...arrow goes there. Don't fight it, enjoy it.
