Nothing is really new, ...is it?
« on: September 18, 2014, 10:54:00 AM »
I stole this pic (fair and square) from an email Doc Nock sent me earlier today that wasn't even archery related. This was just one of the pics in the slide show.

The gentleman in the pic is Iron Hawk of the Oglala Lakota Sioux Nation. The pic was taken around 1899. Look at those loooong 3:1 or maybe even 4:1 points!!! ...And we think  we're coming up with all this "new" technology. Ha!   :readit:

They are traditional iron trade points. You can buy duplicates at 3Rivers.

There are lots of points that have been excavated that share the 3-4:1 ratio that well predate iron points.  Makes me think some good 4:1 points are on the to-do list.

Great photo.  I'm always surprised at the narrow width of their arrowheads and they should know what works best.

One of the last living survivors of the Little Big Horn Battle.  Cool pic!

That is a really cool picture Ron.  It would be cool to frame that one.

I attended a historical society talk on the battle of Little Big Horn recently and the speaker passed around an iron arrowhead from that period. Pretty cool,as an archer,to be able to hold that in my hand.

Arrows and the bow both look a lot shorter than my stuff. How long was his bow and what was the poundage? Any guesses? Thanks, Roy
Maybe it is time to shoot what I have on the rack

That bow looks similar one I saw yesterday at the large museum in Chicago.
