Hunting Season Over
« on: September 20, 2014, 11:52:00 PM »
Well my hunting season ended before it ever began.  I was planning for the past few months to go bow hunting with friends in the Hope Arkansas area.  My friend who lives there was all excited to get together again and do some hunting together after way too many years apart. He got a call the other day and was informed that the timber company was going to go on the hunting lease and start cutting timber any day now.  He had to go remove all of the stands, and he had put a lot of work into getting the hunting woods in good enough shape to hunt.  He informed me, no hunting this year.  What a bummer!  Oh well, I wish all of you a great hunting season, and I'll just keep practicing for next year.  May you all have great hunting adventures, and make meat if you so desire.

Wait. You're in TX! Isn't there a deer and a pig behind every tree there?! Don't give up so soon. There has to be another outlet for you.

That stinks!!! If I were in your shoes I would be putting together a plan B. I'm not sure what kind of public hunting opportunities Texas has, but here in the natural state we have plenty of public land to hunt. It might not be as productive as prime timber land, but a good time with friends could still be had. I take deer off of public land every year here in Arkansas. Good luck and I hope your season turns out well.

Now then, get your equipment-your quiver and bow-and go out into the open country to hunt some wild game for me.

Check out some public WMA's in your area, there still time and "when there's a will there's a way".
Everything I have and have become is due to the Lord and his great mercy.

Lots of Texans as T/G members start a TEXANS thread asking if any know of farmers with hog problems or like said above public land options.
Not sure how other states operate but Ms. got one thing right and that's their countless WMA'S! Best wishes.

I would certainly not give up. It may mean some last minute planning, but you can find something. I have a love/hate with public lands. I hunt on post and it can be a pain sometimes but it has made me a better hunter. Just this morning I missed a fat little doe from my brush blind and tripod stool (I said a better hunter, not a bettet shot! Haha). Post is like a lot of WMAs in that its well managed and large. Theres opportunity to be had for those that try. I gave up treestands and never got into cameras. These things have allowed me to remain flexible and mobile and to really read the situations better. Ive been out 3 times this season, thr first day was a terrible storm, saw nothing, second time a got into a game of stalk and seek with a doe but she won in the end and I never got a shot off, then this morning the near miss. Im sold. Either way good luck and i hope it all works out for you!

agreed.. I went last weekend to check out a stand of woods ive hunted for a lot of years and taken a lot of game out of, found it was all cut... time to devise a plan B and move on.. if you already have your Arkansas license, or even if ya don't,  we have a LOT of WMA's with good deer populations, and millions of acres of public national forest lands.....  come on.....we have a 5 month season, im sure you guys can find a place to hunt
if not, im sure Texas has some public areas that not over run with folks

Thanks for the encouragement guys.  Sometimes you just get down when something you have been planning for months and months goes south at the last minute.  I appreciate everyone on this board, all of you are class acts.

Try being from Michigan and having the Lions.  You will know all to well what it is like to get your hopes up before the season starts.
