The Final Week
« on: September 28, 2014, 12:53:00 AM »
Here in PA we are down to the final week of pre-season.  I was doing pretty well holding out for a few more days and avoiding the urge to get a MD license and run south until tonight when I saw a buck walking along the fence along the PA turnpike.
I keep telling myself that I am not going out the first day as I try and avoid the first morning crowds.  However, while I still shoot both compound and recurve, I plan on focusing on recurve for the first two weeks or so long as I feel there is a good chance of having deer come in to the stand at less than 20 yards.
I have never shot at a deer with the recurve so my confidence is shaky and I need to keep distance limited.
To all of my fellow PA guys...
The quiver is filled with newly fletched arrows, the Zwickeys are sharpened, and the treestand sits ready in the garage.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I have shot a boatload of deer with stickbows, and I can't remember the last time I shot one as far out as 20yds!

Good luck, and I hope you can get it done with the recurve!

Sadly, passing up shots beyond 20 yards was what got me away from traditional before.  Hope to get the trail camera out tomorrow.  Last year the only shot opportunity I had in archery was at 12 yards and unfortunately the lower limb of the wheel bow hit the treestand rail.  Lesson learned the hard way on that one.

I can't wait for opening day. Don't get many people hunting where I hunt.
Paw bow tuned and ready, Woodsman's nice and sharp, and sitting on top of 30" Beamans.
Good luck this season.

Good luck. I've been hunting NJ the past few weeks since I couldn't wait.

Sadly, it looks like rain on Saturday for the opener. I put the trail camera out on Monday so I am  interested to see what is wandering past the stand area.
