Saturday hunting success and failures.
« on: September 29, 2014, 11:27:00 PM »
Saturday I was helping a buddy try and fill his FT Riley Elk tag. Well we failed to see any elk.
But had a wonderful encounter with a buck just a bit smaller then the one in my avatar.

Sorry for the crappy video but it was take on a cel phone camera.

Thanks for sharing!  My dream is to kill a giant buck from the ground!

Yes this is a dream of mine to spot and stalk a whitetail, any buck or doe. The fort has made it a bit harder. The orange did not help. But I think I have a few days with out it comming up.

It is funny when I decide I am going to try and take an amimail, I dont get excited. Before and after I can barly walk. I dont care if it is a doe or monster, I get excited to see them to know I might get a chance. But once I flip that switch to try and take one. I get focused, calm, then after it is over and the animail wins or me, I can barly walk again. Say a prayer for the gift of the hunt and daydream for day heck years sometime over an encounter.

This buck came out of no where you see how open the area is. I stood up to glass behind us down in a draw and see a deer behind a bit of red osier dog wood cluster just over a 100yrds or so below us. I told my hunting partner. Then I seen antler not much just a bit of bone. Told hunting parter it was a buck. Then I got a look at just his bases and face and knew he was a mature buck. I knew then I was trying for him. I pointed him out to my hunting paterner and went for it. As he came out in the open I knew he was a really good deer. 150 cls deer easy.
Little did I know he had me on camera.
