Helms Deep / Lil Favorite
« on: September 30, 2014, 05:26:00 PM »
So it sounds like this is a very popular bow. I cant find many pics of the Helms Deep. But there are lots of the lil fav. Maybe it's just the particular pics I have found but it looks like th helms deep has a larger more round handle as to where the lil fav is smaller and more intricately profiled. Or maybe I just saw a custom one off?

Is this correct or are they the same?

PS 10 bonus points to anyone who shows a pic of their beautiful helms deep / lil fav...

Here's a Shrew Lil Favorite I owned earlier this year.  It was built circa 2009.

You must understand that its pretty likely that Gregg made slight cosmetic tweaks to either line of bows so that they are not straight clones of each other.  Same design, yet the Shrew bows were made to fit with the Shrew line, Java Man made to fit Gregg's own style.  Makes sense to me.

My Helms Deep that I have for sale in the classifieds as it is too heavy for me...54" 50#@28 2pc bow bolt.  Plus Gregg said he couldn't take any weight off it or I would have had it reduced 5#.

Thanks for the pics, some very nice bows.

Anyone know if these can handle a 29-inch draw length?

The 54" in the pics I posted above handled my 29ish draw with zero problems.  Really fun bow to shoot.  You could go 56" if you wanted an extra margin but I think 54" worked great and I got everything out of the limbs.  Email Gregg he can steer you right.

Man those things look good to me when they are a dark color! And what a difference in looks from just eliminating the handle wrap!

I sure am tempted to pick that one up used. Ideally I would like to get one dark and dull for hunting and probably around 58" or so to eek out as much forgiveness as I can.

How often to these bad boys come up used?

I tried a 54" at my 29ish inch draw and didn't like it. Didn't stack but I thought it felt "pinchy."  At 58" Gregg makes the Assayrian or I can highly recommend the Toelke Chinook.   I was shooting both tonight and I still think my chinook is quieter then my Elkheart.

30" draw with a 56" 45@28 Bowbolt Lil Favorite. I've had two 54" inchers in the past and they were just too short for my 30" draw. Picked up the 56" a couple of years ago and it's perfect. It's been responsible for putting to sleep a bear and a few whitetail since then.

I have a Lil' Favorite, and have killed a pretty good pile of whitetails with it. I also have the awesome memory of sitting with Ron in front of the fire at Shrewhaven,  and helping to come up with the name. It's an excellent bow.

I haven't seen either of these before but they are good looking bows.  They don't really look like a 'normal' recurve or longbow.  And I like different.
