different servings on one string possible?
« on: October 17, 2014, 02:41:00 AM »
I wonder if it is possible to make two different servings on one string? My woodies and carbons have a different nock fit.
It would be convenient to have a string with two different servings and by turning the string on your bow you can choose.
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]

How about serve for your smaller nock but make the serving long enough you can reverse string and use other end of serving for smaller nock building it up with dental floss for correct fit.
shoot straight shoot often

I bet it would work. Ive built up the area under the nock set with dental floss on skinny strings. You may have to serve a bigger area on the main string to have enough there on top and bottom when you flip the string

Should work fine.  Just serve so you could flip the string for a different nock, make both loops the same size or just un-string the end with the larger loop (that's what I would do).

I would think that the length of the string would play a big factor here.  If the bow is under 60", i think you would have a time to get it worked out correctly.  But i think it would be fun to try to figure it out.  If you want to try to make this happen, let me know.  I build strings and would love to experiment with it!

All you will need is a measurement from the end of the string to the approximate nock point.  Mark that point from each end of the string.  Start 1/2-way between these two points and serve.

Sounds like a good approach...

I was just thinking with a 56" string, the servings would essentially be the same.  and would have to change serving sizes between the underneath where you will be gripping(middle finger may be on 1 size serving and ring finger on the next.

Not saying it wouldn't work, just saying it would be interesting to see.

I would just serve small and use a little tape to fit larger nocks.  I use blue painters tape and it lasts quite a while and comes off without leaving and goo.

I have been doing it for a while and it works fine. Actually, it works great.

You just have to do a little measuring and marking to know where the actual nocking points will be. You can build up one nock "area" with something like teflon tape (a Rick ****** idea), or you can just switch to a different serving material to get a thicker or thinner serving.

With a good serving tool, you can do a lot of experimenting, and LEARNING. I have not bought a string in 24 years, and don't intend to.
I had a really good group going... until I shot the second arrow.

My best bows are the ones someone else didn't want.

I have to know why Rick's last name is blocked out?
