Gamegetter XX75 ???
« on: October 19, 2014, 04:22:00 PM »
I am looking to purchase some  Gamegetter xx75 2016 (500) arrows. I am shooting a Bear Super Kodiak 45 @28. I draw right at 28. The arrows are 10.6 GPI. I shoot a 30" arrow with 125 grain tip.  With an aluminum insert, nock and 4" feathers this will give me close to an 11 GPI arrow. Is this to heavy for a 45 lb bow. Should I look at a lighter carbon.

Thanks

They should be close.  You might want to be prepared to go heavier with point weight.  You MIGHT also consider 1916 shafts.

I had a similar set up on a Damon Howett bow.  125's flew well but 145 grain field points and broad heads seemed to fly better.

I suspect 1916's would work well for you.

Try shooting some un-fletched arrows with the 125 and 145's along with a few of your fletched arrows and see if you discover any patterns on where they all group.

Try 2014s if you can find them. They will be x7s so a little more pricey than the GGs but are my "go to" arrows for 45#.........found all mine "used" for less tha 30 bucks per dozen........

I hunted with aluminum shafts for many, many years until the newer carbon arrows came out. Once you start using carbon shafts it's really hard to go back to aluminum..... With carbon they are either dead straight, or broken.... Nothing in between.

I'll never forget a elk hunt i was on where i took a fall going down into a deep canyon and bent every arrow in my quiver. Unfortunately i didn't notice that i had bent them until i came up on the elk herd in the bottom.... One at a time i pulled out arrows only to drop them on the ground until i realized they were all bent way beyond salvage. Its a pretty helpless feeling watching elk feeding 40 yards, away and having 6 bent arrows at your feet.

After that little episode i went with carbon and haven't looked back. Carbon shafts also recover from paradox much quicker than aluminum does....

I'd highly recommend a CE Heritage 150 shaft for your 45# bow as the toughest of the bunch, or the GT 3555 for an economical shaft..... Another good shaft that are reasonably priced is Bemans Hunter series. I think the 500 would be great for 45 #. I've used those shafts a lot for 3D and they hold up to abuse pretty darn good...

Shoot them full length with the 125s.  You can try and find some used or order a couple in 1916 and 2016.  LAS will sell you 2 or 3 of each if needed.  I am not a fan of less than a 16 wall

Another choice in a .500 carbon is Goldtip Expedition Hunter or Easton Aftermaths

I shoot three different bows, all #45 at 28" and use the xx75 2016s.  They fly great with 125 grain points

The X7s are the "target" version of the XX78 Super Slams.  They feature a harder allow which I have found to be more resistant to bend.
If they made them in a 2016, they would be my favorite.
I keep hoping to run into a bunch of XX78s in 2016

If they are full length you can fool around with length a bit too, but I think they will be darn close for your set up ... if your getting a great deal on 500 and they do not work you can break them down to dozens and sell them ....

I shoot aluminum arrows a bunch.  I feel the 1916s would be a lot better match than 2016s.

Carbons have many benefits, but I find them to be more difficult to tune.  With three aluminum arrows, 1916,2016 and 2018 I am good to go for bows from 45 to 60lbs.

Carbons are straight enough for most traditional archers, but make sure to inspect them for damage prior to shooting.

I decided on Carbon Express Heritage 150.   Ran then on the spine calculator and the should work for my setup. Thanks for all the info.  Love this site.

I would think the 1916 is a good match. If you go heavy on point weight and more than 2in over your draw then 2016 is a good choice.
I have been rethinking alum arrows lately as well. I am shooting a Bear Mag Handle with 60# limbs. I have a couple doz. old 2117 AO arrows from days gone by. I ran my setup through Stu's calculator and was less then 1# diff between bow and arrow.
If in doubt on this website is a 1970's alum arrow shaft chart. It was made before we had a bazillion choices. Maybe in the "how to's ".
