Rancho Safari Ghillie..... Which one?
« on: October 22, 2014, 09:27:00 PM »
I ordered the Rancho Safari Ghillie ultralight longcoat that 3 Rivers sells and while it appears to be nice and fits good it has more cotton than I thought it would and also is much lighter in color than what the picture shows in 3 rivers. Picture shows a fair amount of green and mine is more brown/yellowish and it's called Jeriflage.

So for those of you that have this coat did you order from 3 rivers or Rancho and also what color do you have?

Thank you.

I have a similar coat.  It is the ultralight and it has light, almost yellowish color swatches.

Although I have been busted wearing it in a marsh in September (still very green), when the colors started to change, I have been nearly stepped on many many times.  Several animals were harvested while wearing that jacket and none over say ten or twelve yards away, many very much closer.

Give it a chance, it works. Don't stand out in the middle of the yard, you still need a little savvy on choosing a hide location.  Trim it before you use it.  Don't be afraid to trim the inner sleeve (bow arm), and chest where string may contact very short.  Also trim the hangie downies in front of your face, with emphasis on the side facing the animal as you draw (so you can see).

Chuck, Thanks for the boost of confidence and advice. Also do you wear the face mask that comes with it or do you just wear a regular face mask? To me it seems like I'd be fine wearing my regular firstlite wool face mask. I think the supplied face mask would need to be trimmed up to much for string clearence and therefore defeat the purpose of the mask.

I'm going to shoot with it tonight and start trimming it.

I own the RS long coat sold by RS. It is heavier than the ultralight but nothing I cannot deal with. I carry it in with me and put it own when I'm ready to hunt. The one I have has a good combination of browns and greens. I also use the face mask and boonie hat supplied without problem.
Good luck, be safe and good hunting.   :campfire:

I wear the boonie and a face mask.  Wore a different one for years, but started using the one supplied this year,  Trim it and it is fine.

Make sure you practice with it on a bit so you know if you trimmed enough
