Hunting Maryland Sika's
« on: November 02, 2014, 11:55:00 AM »
Thought I'd try one more time before the whitetail rut kicks in full swing.  Went down and hunted Tuesday and Wednesday and didn't see a deer either mornings but had action both evenings.  The area I use to hunt all the trees are dead.  Haven't hunted Black water national refuge for 3 years but lost my main private spot this year.  Ended up hunting in dead trees which made me stand out like a sore thumb and not very safe. The trees are dieing from too much salt water and maybe some pine beetle infestation.

On the first evening I mewed in this nice 6 pt and was starting to draw when he spotted me.  About a 2 minute stand off and off he went.  He came out about 10 minutes later in a small opening about 35 yards out and starred at me.

Saw this hine 25 yards from the road at 1:00 just getting a snack.

The last evening saw the same 6 pt and a small hine.  The 6 would look when I mewed but wouldn't come any closer then 70 yards.  The first evening the temp was 57 and I didn't have any bug spray on or the thermacell and did they eat me alive.  When the stag was coming in and we had the stand off the skeeters were having a feast but I couldn't move.  The last evening had the bug stuff on.
