Today I got some bad news. The lovely lady that owned my hunting lease lost her battle with cancer, and has passed on to be in heaven. She was as sweet as they come, and always demanded that we (my stepfather and a group of friends) give her progress reports about her land, and we have done a lot to improve it in the last 10 years. What started as a landowner/leasee agreement became a friendship. We always made a point to stop and visit her a while while we were in town to hunt.
That being said...this will be the last year I hunt that lease. It is a special place. Just a couple weeks ago I got my first trad harvest there, and I cannot even begin to list the fine memories. I am looking at my hunting journals from the last five years (regrettably that's as far back as they go), and I have have seen 127 whitetails, over 80 turkeys, and 19 'yotes hunting that property. You can't beat that. What a honey hole.
Luckily the land has been willed to the Cross Creeks Wildlife refuge, and will now be public bow only( with the exception of some youth and lottery hunts) hunting land for all to enjoy. I think that's about as cool as it could be.
I will continue to hunt in the area. If anyone here on Tradgang knows of any good for lease in the Clarksville/Dover/Indian Mound area of Tennessee, send me a message, I am officially on the hunt, pun intended.
Thanks gang,
Jake
