My new SBD string, results!
« on: November 16, 2014, 06:00:00 PM »
So just got back from camping for four days with the kids.  We all had a blast and it was a great mini vacation.  I just got home about 3 hours ago and saw the brown package in the mailbox.  Wife told me my string was in and then realized I wasn't going to be any use until the sun went down.

I got the new string on the bow and checked the brace height, which came in a little high (8 3/4") and no room to lower it.  I figured my draw length is way under the 28" so didn't really worry about it.  Grabbed my arrows that were shooting stiff and headed out in the back yard.  First release and I was happy at 10 yards because it was all over the place the next few that followed was the same.  I grabbed my bare shaft and it read really weak.  I mean this is totally 180 from how they were shooting with the old string.

Well after shooting 340, 400, 500, and 600's at different lengths.  I got the 28 1/2" 500 shaft with 145 grains up front shooting perfect out to 20 yards.  I am not sure if I should be happy or upset because all the other arrows I purchased are now worthless.

So how should I go about ordering my arrows.  My bare shaft in 500 spine is from 3 rivers Easton tuning kit.  All my other arrows are Gold Tip with the exception of the 340's which are Bass Pro Blackout's.  I have Gold Tip weight inserts so should I order the Gold Tip in 500's?  Will they fly the same?  Seriously going broke buying arrows.

Extremely happy with the SBD string, super super quiet with the recurve wraps, and insane amount of difference in arrow flight.

If the .500 spine works and you are happy with the total arrow weight buy them if all it takes is 145 grains I would buy that size field points and use the insert that comes with shaft. As nice as those weights are they can get pricey like you say.
I am making up some GT 55-75 shafts for my 60# recurve. I found just by switching to 175 grain points I am tuned. That is cheaper than buying brass inserts or weights.
Yes, I also use SBD strings on almost all my bows. I really like how they quiet down my Bear TD's.
