Classic Whip or NM Baraga?
« on: November 22, 2014, 11:36:00 AM »
Has anyone owned both of these bows?  I haven't been able to shoot either and am wondering how they compare as far as shootability.  Thanks.

Have not ever shot the Baraga, Steve makes an awesome bow.

But I did just get in from a little woods walk with my Classic Whip and I also have to say that Dan makes a very impressive bow. Both in quality and shootability.

I have a Baraga......great bow. I think the Whip is a bit more R/D and might be a bit quicker.

Both good, but prefer looks and finish of the Whip.

Thanks guys.  From what I've read, both bows are pretty quiet, correct?  Any hand shock with the Baraga?

I'd go classic whip. I've never shot a barga but I've looked at them before at a shoot.

My Baraga has the RW grip and I can feel no hand shock, but I don't find I feel it very often anyway......there have been a few bows that I felt it on.

Eric,
        Our Whips are unbelievably quiet.

I have shot a few NM Baraga's with the RW grip and they were smooth, quick and quiet.  No hand shock.  The work was flawless on the one's I handled.

I can't say on the Whip cause I've never shot one.

I have had both.  Whip was 60 inches and 53# @ 28 and the Baraga was 60 inches and 54# @ 28.  Both were excellent.  The Baraga braces to more of a classic D and seemed be built a little thicker - more meatier limbs with a deep core. It was every bit as quick as the whip and was absolutely shock free.
The Whip had more of a hybrid look when braced, was very well mannered and shock free as well.

They were both fantastic but in the end sold the Whip and kept the Baraga cause it was just built like a tank and I preferred the classic D brace. I also preferred the trapezoid limb design a bit better on the Baraga.

Steve will most likely be at Kzoo this year if you can make it to Michigan at the end of January. Then you can shoot one and see it for yourself.  If you go, be sure to bring your arrows.

I think meatCKR nailed it. something about the way a Baraga feels in your hand solid.

Thanks guys.  I've never heard a bad word about either bow and the owners of both really seem to like them.  The Whips look beautiful but there's something about the profile of a Baraga that really appeals to me.  Does Steve from NM ever come to ETAR?  He was listed as a vendor this past year but was not there.  Can't say as I blame him with gas prices at the time.

Steve comes to ETAR, last year he had some storm damage at another show I think and couldn't make it.

Thanks Ron.  God willing I'll be there next year.
