Fall turkey Hunt
«

My fall turkey hunt has been going for a few weeks now. This is my first fall hunt for birds Utah hasn't had a fall hunt since the early 80"s. I have had to give up my spring hunts the last few years because of work schedules so I was excited to get out. I haven't had much time to get out but I have managed a few days. Its been a fun hunt so far. I have mainly have been trying to get my nephew his turkey. We have seen lots of turkeys with plenty of opportunity's and lots of excitement. The first few days We tried to get my nephew a bird but it ended in an unfortunate miss only taking a few feathers. Today my nephew couldn't come because of family obligations so I was going solo. I set up in a old pond full of Russian Olives where we had been seeing lots of birds.

When I first arrived I could still here birds roosted in the Russian Olives. I had to wait for the birds to fly down and leave so I could get set up. It didn't take long before I was set up and birds we busy feeding around me.

I had several birds give me good shots but I was thinking of holding out for a big tom. The birds feeding and making noise brought in several different hunters with there shot guns. One guy drove his jeep right up to my blind to say hi. After that I figured it was time to head back to the truck and get a bite to eat and let the birds come down.

This one was nice to see. Unfortunately there was a buck with this one that made this one look little but I couldn't get the camera on him.

After a nice lunch and a little stump shooting I headed back to the dried pond. I figure most guys wouldn't hunt until this evening and I would sit all day. About twenty minutes after getting back to my blind I could here birds close by. Soon I could see birds feeding in the dry pond. They feed back and forth for about an hour giving me a few shoots but I pasted. The longer the birds stayed the more I though about actually having a wild bird for the table on Thanksgiving. The more I thought about it the less I was concerned on shooting one of the big toms I had seen. The next good bird that came into range I sent an arrow its way!

The arrow flew good and hit its mark. The bird only made it 20 yards and fell within sight.

Awesome photos!
I have to ask... are you using a pop-up blind?
It's my lifelong goal to put a bird down with my bow.

Nice Job! I was down in Escalante last weekend and there were turkeys out in every field. It was nice to see a few birds around, I wasn't hunting, just hanging out. I didn't even know about the fall hunt.
