Can you date this BEAR?
« on: December 14, 2014, 11:05:00 PM »
I recently bought a vintage BEAR "BROWN BEAR" AMO 60". 45# RECURVE. It was made in Grayling Michigan and has the standing bear decal. I can't put a year on it except I know it is 78 or earlier since it says Grayling Michigan on the handle.

Anyone know of this model?? I would guess early to mid 70s if I had to put money on it.

I will upload a few pics.

Here is the original box that it came in with 6 cedar arrows never shot before. Paid $30 for the whole set up.

The large standing bear decal dates it 1953 to 1956... but I just can't imagine it being that old.

ANY help is appreciated.

Never seen one of these before and having trouble putting a year or year range on it.

Nice find. I can't help you any with the date of the bow. But I'd have jumped all over it...esp at that price tag!

I can usually do a Google search and come up with a ball park idea on a bow. Too many tag lines that brought up too much unrelated junk on this one.

You might try posting in the trad history/collecting forum if you don't find the answers to your questions here.

Once again, nice find!

Bear made a few different colors of these. I have the "Golden Bear" model, which is all yellow. They also made a red model. Each color was a different weight. Red was 15#, Yellow was 30#, and Brown was 45#.

I seem to remember doing some research and seeing mid 70's - post this over in the collecting forum and you'll probably find some Bear guys that could help narrow it down.

Honestly the most valuable part of this set I think is the box and arrows. Those graphics are in awesome condition. I bought my bow (just the bow) at an auction for $8, and I shoot it a lot. I keep it around for anyone new to shooting because it's got a shelf on both sides and is only 30#.

Regardless, they're cool pieces of history to own. Hope this helps some.
