Carbon Arrow Help For A Friend?
« on: December 14, 2014, 11:19:00 PM »
Hi guys...my buddy is looking to pick up some carbons (gold tip trad blems I think ) for his new bow and I am no help to him...cause I have never shot em. Just lookin to help him save a little money from the trial and error...hopin you guys could get him close.

Bow is a Big Jim Buffalo..64" [email protected] he draws it to 28.5". He would like to stay with a 125-150 grain head.

Having no experience with em..and just going by what I have read on here in the past I was thinking a gold tip 35/55...maybe a 100 grain brass insert..and a 125-150 grain head. And that's leaving em full length.

I know there is a little trial and error involved but should this get him fairly close before I offer him my suggestion?

Thanks

IMO I think 5575's would be a better choice.  At least they have worked for me for bows from 52-60.  Then again, I seem to shoot stiffer shafts better.

I'd give Big Jim a call. I know he just got some new blems in and the guy really knows what he's talking about. That's what I did with my bow when I bought carbons and they are spot on. Can't recommend them enough. Also since it's one of his bows I'd imagine he's familar with what arrows she likes.

Well, I would suggest the 5575's with the 100g brass...I usually never suggest a length and I am not doing that right now. I think after doing some testing/tuning that these will need to be cut down a little...or a lot to make them work to their full potential.

With specs, we can only go by what we perceive, but we can prove it by testing. Our shooting is the truth ...at least at the time. While we shoot, we will be using our "real" draw length and our "real" release. This is why one guys set up doesn't always work for someone with the exact same specs.
Thanks, bigjim
