putting tips on wooden arrows
« on: December 31, 2014, 08:55:00 PM »
I got a half dozen flu flus for Christmas and I don't have any tapering tools or anything. I do have some points. What is a good them so I can put them on? Also, what is a good glue to use? I don't figure that the hot melt used for carbons will work?

BigJims hot melt is all I use on all types of arrows. you will need to taper them this could be done on a sander or other ways.

Go to one of our sponsors and buy a pencil sharpener type tapering tool. Hot melt glue works great for wood arrows.

You want a 5 degree taper to accept the point.

The taper needs to be correct, at 5 deg. and best done with a Sanding disc with a "V" guide, usually made from a block of wood, set against a fence or guide with an arrow shaft stop. Check the Resource Forum if you plan to make one. Otherwise buy a commercial taper tool, there are many. An uneven taper will result in a point that wobbles and poor flight.

Also clean the points before gluing. I've also used expoxy, but you can not change points with that option.
