10% was kind of the standard for many years and it works pretty good.  Balance an arrow on your finger and if the balance point looks to be 2.5 inches or more forward of center you should be OK.  Don't sacrifice arrow flight and tuning trying to get a higher FOC.  When it comes to arrow performance, perfect flight trumps everything else.

I like a weight forward arrow but FOC has its limits when shooting woods.  I've played around with lots of things and now just shoot 190+ grain heads.

1st notable gains are manifested at levels >19%

Normal FOC - < 12%

High FOC -  >12 % to 19%

Extreme FOC- > 19% to <30%

Ultra EFOC – 30% and greater

All that really matters is that your arrow is tuned really well. I do believe that higher FOC can be of an advantage and my arrows are about 22%. That being said, there has been a gazillion critters killed with arrows with far less FOC than that.

"When it comes to arrow performance, perfect flight trumps everything else."

That is precisely why I like to build my arrows with 31+%  UEFOC.  Because they fly better, more consistent and much easier to tune than an arrow with only 12% FOC.

My arrows are at 32.5% foc with 430 grains up front. Full length Victory HV arrow, 235gr glue on Kodiak single bevel, 75gr steel adapter, 100gr brass insert, 20gr footing and 3- 3" feathers. My arrows come out to 650 grains and are right around 10gpp for my bow! These arrows bareshaft tuned great and will have no problem with penetration!

I agree with Bisch on the one. Just make sure your arrows are tuned and shoot good with broadheads and you'll be set

There is defiantly a advantage to a high FOC arrow.

There is no reason that a high FOC arrow can not be tuned properly .Most who experiment and achieve UEFOC  (over 30 %)
actually shoot arrows with a minimal amount of feathers and have tuned bare shafted with perfect flight.

If one is satisfied with the old standards which work ok( I know I used that standard for 20 + years) they will never know the beauty of a well tuned high FOC arrow

Carbon express 250 29.25 inches …55lb long bow @ 28” draw. 32% UEFOC . …100 grain bras insert….75 grain titanium adaptor …300 grain head ….25 grain footing…..total weight up front 500 grain   total arrow weight 760 grain 3 x feathers A&A 2.5 inc

Not for everyone but I would not shoot anything else . It shoots like a dart.       :)
