Robert is spot on...I hunted along the Savannah River for 25 years and have lived in N Georgia for twenty of those. If there were hogs in abundance closer believe me, my Momma didn't raise a fool...I'd have hunted closer and saved all that gasoline.

The Northern half of Georgia has tremendous public land resources. There are many WMAs as well as the Chattahoochie National forest that cover around 750,000 acres.  Go to the Georgia DNR website and you can find all the maps that list the various WMAs by region.

Having said that,   RC said it best when he gave the advice to drive to the southern half of Georgia for hogs.  Turkey hunting can be pretty good up there but deer hunting would be marginal in the mountains as well.

Fewer deer in the mountains or just harder hunting conditions?

Many fewer deer with significantly smaller antlers.  I am not saying there aren't pockets of good hunting for deer but generally the lower population and rugged terrain make it more difficult.   This all changes as you move South towards Atlanta. Those metro counties are LOADED with deer and there are many giant bucks taken there.

I conduct hog hunts in the central part of the state just North of Macon.  That area of Georgia is generally considered to be the Northef range of the good hog hunting.  Again, there are pockets of hog hunting all over the state but you could hunt for weeks and even much longer and not kill a hog in some areas.

Thanks Jerry, I'm looking to move the Lawrenceville/Gainesville region to be near my daughter. Rack size means nothing to me, just like to see deer and maybe get a crack one, buck or doe. Turkey and pigs would just be a bonus for me. Let me add this......where I hunt most of the time the deer per sq. mile is 3 and of that .5 are bucks. All most anything would be a great improvement!

Cohutta has hogs....management area boarders TN...Pine Log Creek ans Stamp Creek near Alatoona lake has hogs...John's MT has hogs near Calhoun GA....but like other's stated, the south or coast line has more.

Heck, I know a guy that had a friend that killed one over 300 with a gun in my county....but again, south or coast line.

I'm pretty sure there's hogs near Lake Russel.  I fished there a few times and got out to look around and found hog sign.  Never hunted there so I dont' now if that was a fluke or what.
