Hot Glue feathers?
«
on:

I ran across some chatter about using hot glue on wood shafts for feathers. Until now I thought it was just for kid crafts and didn't think it worked particularly well even for that.
Should I be considering this for the kid arrows I am making? (Wood shafts, watco teak oil, crown paint)

Nope! Hot glue will be a real pain to work with and not very good on feathers. Go with gel super glue, it works great and is very fast to apply.

It won't work well, you need a fast drying glue such as super glue.

Awesome thanks guys.
PS I have heard a lot about duco cement for woodies. That's what I planned on using until I thought about the hotglue.
How does the duco and super glue compare? They seem like quite a different animal. (new to woodies and thinking duco must be like barge)

I heard great things about duco. I get myself in trouble often by using what I have rather than buying what is needed. My first set of woods I used deft for a finish. Neither duco yo fletchtite would work. Now I'll probably be marked for life for admitting this but I used clear wraps then used fletchtite it worked. This winter I made a half dozen woods and finished w polyurtene ( stolen from my wife's craft supplies) I then put feathers on w duco and they appear to be on for good. In my limited experience it seems like how well a glue works is based on how it interacts with your paint or finish. Duco is cheap in cost.

Rifleman, if you stay with the poly for a finish Ducco is all you will ever need. Only thing I have heard it (Ducco) will not work with is Bohning paints.

Thanks M60gunner. I was pleased that it worked and will keep using poly on woods.
