Just about any arrow you put together with a good hunting weight head(125+) should scale about 450+ and thats more than enough to kill about anything in N. America. If going after big bears, large hogs, or bison I would want another hundred or so gr.............. find what shoots best from your bow and dont sweat it......

I weighed my arrows today and they averaged 502 gr. so I think I'm pretty close. I guess some heavier field points and broad heads would bring it up some. I'm shooting cedar shafts with 5" feather fletchings right now. It works out to 9.1 right now.

Hey Goose... i think you'll be fine shooting wood shafts a 9.1 gpp, but if you decide to go to carbon you are going to find an increase in bow noise at that gpp level. The carbons are always a bit louder until you get up around 10-10.5 gpp... So you may want to bump it up a tad bit with point weight if you go that route.

That sounds good. I think I'm going to stick with the wooden arrows just because I like them but I'm going to look for some heavier field tips for them. I don't want to buy any broad heads until I think I have the right combo. Shooting 125 gr field points now.

I believe Fred Bear said he liked 9 gpp. right now I'm shooting 13 gpp from my Halfbreed. Not super fast but they're quiet and hit hard where I look.
