250 fld tips &1535 prefict together
« on: February 02, 2015, 01:31:00 PM »
I've been tuning a Bear's Paw 1pc classic 45@28 ff 12 strand d-10 (27 my draw 42lb, right hand) wool puffs , with a very thin leather strike plate.   The best flying  arrow I've came up with is a 281/2 inch gt trad 1535, 3 4 inch feathers, 1 inch 2117 footing(12grns) supplied insert(11grns) and a 250 grn fld tip. Flies true and    :bigsmyl:    works)does anyone else find this     :help:    strange ?

I shoot [email protected] with a r/d longbow and shoot the 1535 with a 100 grain insert and 175 grain point. shoots like a bullet. I think the 1535 is a very good arrow for low pounds and seems to be overlooked. RC

The grip on that BP looks real comfortable. I would think weak but everybody has a little different shooting style & a bare shaft don't lie. I pull 27" also & my 43#@27" BW PCH likes a 29" CE-150 490 spine if memory serves, & a stock insert with 175gr point. I'm using an 8 strand D-10 FF. My wife is shooting 1535's full length out of her Dale Dye 37#@29" with stock insert & 145gr point, she pulls a full 29" though.

I'd have thought way weak, but my form never agrees with the charts, so what do I know! I got some 600's to try with a set of lighter (45#@ my 28.5"draw)ILF limbs and they showed weak @ 29" length all the way down to 100gr. points. The 30" 500's w/175 gr heads flew best, but they're what I use with my 48-49# limbs, so they shouldn't work! I was interested in building a hunting shaft with 500's using Jason (Lb_hntr)method of double inserting to get a total weight and FOC bump at the same time, until I found out he does it by choosing 3 spines, full length, and picking components to give him weight/FOC he's after and trimming tiny increments at a time until he has a winner. I'm sorry, I don't have enough time left on earth to get there by "trial and error"...I'll drop dead cutting shafts, lol!  Until then, I have a normal, low FOC shaft that flies perfectly and kills deer.  When someone develops a chart that can tell me how much length/weight I need to offset the stiffening effect of double inserting then I'll give it another try...if I'm not dead!

Out of my 47lb palmer I use a 125gr point on my 28" 1535's so I would think weak too.

Tommy, I shoot them with 360 gr up front, they paper tune perfect, if I take 50 gr off no difference @ 310 gr, that's a 600 + gr arrow.
