Irish archers? any out there?

On a recent business trip to Dublin I had some time off in the evening and was wandering around and spotted a recurve bow in the window of a shop - had to check it out of course. In Rory's fishing tackle shop down from the Temple Bar there were several recurve bows and some associated gear displayed as well as a hi tech bow collecting dust in the corner (made me smile). It's a touristy area, but I doubt they are selling bows to tourists. What's the archery scene like? Bowhunting legal? Gave a small pull of home as a stranger in a strange land

My wife was born & raised in Limerick Ireland and I have asked her numerous times about archery in Ireland she had never seen anything to do with archery there. She is going back next month and she is going to snoop around to see if she can find anything.

"Archery in Ireland" brings up a number of hits, indicating that it seems to be reasonably popular there. "Bow Hunting in Ireland" indicates that it is illegal there, as it is in the UK.

Hearing that bow hunting in the UK is totally illegal makes me think the authorities still hold a grudge against Robin Hood.

Some of my ancestors came from Ireland and their name was Archer. Does this count?

My father is from Dublin and came here in the mid 50's as a teenager and never remembers anyone with a bow and arrow. No one could afford it. Only sling shots and rocks knocking out street lamps.

Field, 3-D and target archery is big in Ireland. A couple of guys from Ireland post on another forum frequently.
