What's the best way to remove a dacron nock point?
« on: March 01, 2015, 01:06:00 PM »
Ok....so I tied on two nock points using dacron braid and THOUGHT I'd be able to move them but apparently when I melted the tag ends I got them a bit too hot and they're stuck.  Whittle at them carefully with a blade or get a new string and start over?

I would whittle away with a razor blade being careful not to get into the serving.

If it is melted into the serving you may need to cut off the serving and reserve? When I tie-on my nocks I just melt the tag ends, then press it down with my thumb. They are easy to cut off, never had a problem.Just be careful so you don't cut into your serving.

That's what I did...and I used a fairly large diameter dacron so it's not cutting into the serving but dang I sure can't move it.

Thanks for the suggestions....I'll see what I can do.

Heat it up a little and see if you can shred it. I use a very light flat to the string sawing motion on a tight string with a new blade. I start shallow and try to shave a bit off at a time, until I can get it to pull apart.  It always makes me very nervous when I shave off a nocking point.

Nail clippers will sometimes work with more control than a blade.

Never thought of that!  Great idea!

I've always used a sharp knife with large serrations and run the valley of the serration along the nock point.  Never cut any serving, but believe I will try the clippers next time.

I use dental tools and a razor.... Next time you go to the dentist ask them for old dental pics. They work excellent for all kinds of things.

A sharp blade or razor with careful attention, works. Could also use an emory board or file to abrade the nock and then pull loose.

Don't reccomend heat with any string or serving! Spectra and dyneema along with other string materials have a low tolerance, temp strength!

I use nail clippers as well... Clip away a bit at a time!
I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6
