For our four year wedding and five year together anniversary, I gave my wife my bow collection as I start to look for higher weights and longer draw lengths.  As I get stronger, I keep my eyes on my 100# goal, and it's not far off.

I've been working on a 64" static recurve, looks like a stretched out Ming dynasty bow, but it kept hitting the ground when I shot from my chair.  It's 45-50#@28", and I was pulling 37".  It wasn't a real workout to pull, but it was heavier than my other bows and didn't stack.

Imagine my surprise when my wife shows me her tablet screen and she's ordered me a Qing dynasty bow (otherwise known as Manchu) and a half dozen of the specially tapered matching arrows.  She also footed the bill for the very specialized heads and the materials for wrapping the shafts.

A proper long draw bow (even if it is 'glass) and arrows made for it, finally!

You better hang on to her, she's a keeper. Congrats on your anniversary and your new bow.

Bob

I would really like to see a pic of you pulling a bow to 37". I can't even fathom how that is possible!

Congrats on your new bow, and great wife!

Maybe he hit 3 instead of 2 for a 27" draw

I'm assuming he's pulling it like the chinese archers used to, extending the string way back past the back of their heads.

I think I've seen you post before, that you have way above average length arms, plus use an Asian draw. Is that correct?
Congratulations on your anniversary and the new bow.
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

halfseminole

Yes, that's correct.  No, 37" is not an exaggeration.  Next time I'm up and about I'll get a pic for you.

I was born with Marfan syndrome, which makes your arms and legs longer than normal.  I also have other bone deformities that prevent me from drawing short without discomfort (my elbow has a much different range of motion) so I long ago chose to work with Asian bows since there are many long draw types.  The Manchu used a 35"-38" arrow as a matter of course.  My 36" to the corner of my mouth fits it perfectly.

My wife married me knowing there is no cure for this disease.  Late last year we were told there's very little they could do save try to keep me comfortable, though I could persist for years like that.  Even so she has no plans to get rid of me.  She's better than I deserve.

All the advice of draw shorter is something I tried and causes me pain, so I stick with what works.  When my new bow gets here I'm going to try to take the world record for heaviest draw with my condition.  Pretty sure I'm the only one trying for it.

Congrats. Happy Anniversary. God bless.
