Question for Bowyers
« on: March 06, 2015, 07:02:00 PM »
Bowyers if you see your bow on Trad Gang and it's painted or camo dipped are you insulted? Do you feel or your hard work is covered up?

I might, but I counter with this.  I bought a bow from Mark Daniels, but I had an allergic reaction to the osage in the handle.  I coated it in satin black epoxy so I could touch it without an inhaler, because I sweat a lot when holding a bow.  I felt bad about doing so, but I wanted to shoot the bow more than see the woods.

I may be the only person that has had this problem.  But I felt bad about doing it.

I would simply think , Now there is a serious hunter and be proud that he chose my bow.

Nope, no problem at all.  In fact, we had a customer ask us to paint a bow all black and it turned out great.

You had responses from at least three professional bowyers.

As an amateur, not many of my bows are sold, mostly given away.  Would not bother me if they got painted.  As far as I know, the only ones that have been painted are my own:)

I personally do not care for the camo dipping/painting.  But, that a personal opinion.  I'd much rather use natural como looking materials than paint a bow.  FWIW.

I like it,  I've had customer put snake skins on bows I've made and thought it looked great.  It's up to the guy who bought it.  I'm only attached to the bows while I'm "raising them" once they leave home, they're in the care of their new owners.  As long as they enjoy the bow, I'm good.
