I am just wondering if anybody has made just the riser for their three piece T/D. Not that there is anything wrong with my Pittsley Predator Impact riser - to the contrary. It is probably too good, because I read somewhere that the new Impact riser is like the machined Velocity riser - the angle on the limb pads adds about 3plus pound to your pull. My limbs say 45#, but they are pulling closer to 48-49# - just a bit too heavy for me.
I used to shoot with the traditional custom riser and it was nice. The new impact is faster, but maybe not as stable and adds that few extra pounds. I priced to buy just the new riser but here in Australia they are well over $400. I am a Design and Technology teacher and I have access to all the gear and the know-how. However, I have never made a riser before. I was wondering if I glued up the blank, used the impact riser as a pattern and replicated that, and just slightly changed the angle of the limb pads to reduce a bit of that weight.
The other thing too, is though this is a great bow - and it is my third Pittsley - all the riser grips are slightly different. This one is OK but not quite perfect. Of course I could rectify that by making the new riser.
The other thing is I could pay the joining fee, get on 'Classifieds' and do a swap for a 40# set of limbs. I am not sure though if these are a popular bow in the States - are there many spare limbs floating around? Any thoughts?
