New string,,New Nocking point ???
« on: March 22, 2015, 05:32:00 PM »
I took the plunge and bought a silent but deadly string for my pronghorn,, I have always had a nocking point 3/8ths of an inch above center, Well I put on the new string let it sit for a few days and today I decided to put on a nocking point. I tied one on and took a few shots to look at the arrow and see how they flew, I could see some up, and down wobble, so I paper tested it and whoa it did show nock low, I started moving the point up till I got the paper tears I liked and wow it was 7/8th of an inch high of center, most I have ever had. I think the new high performance SBD string had something to do with it, and I'm wondering if anybody else has had similar results,

I've never seen any change from the 1/2" - 5/8" I usually have when I switched to SBD strings. Just tried a nice LBR BCY-X string and same thing - no change from the B-50 string.

I've always used D97 strings, and I always have a 3/4" high nocking point and I shoot split fingered.

A new string may mean a slight change of brace height. There's an outside chance that may be part of your problem.

Of course if the bow shoots good with the high nocking point just forget it and shoot.

The bow shoots great, the SBD string did enhance the performance of the bow

in my experience every string is different.

Tie the nock on and and play with it a half turn at a time.

That's what I tend to do anyway.

I love SBD strings though!

Good luck!

check to see if your nocks are tighter/looser on the new string...........

In my experience, varying the pressure of your fingers has a significant effect on nock point, at least for 3 under shooters.  When I took most of the pressure off my ring finger and distributed about 80% of the pressure between my index and middle fingers, I was able to lower my nock point by 1/8" or more.   Maybe there would be a similar effect for split finger shooters, I don't know.

1/2" change in nock point is huge. I can't imagine a new string making that much difference. I'll bet there's something else going on.

I got a PM from the SBD string folks saying maybe the problem is my arrow spine wasn't tuned to the bow anymore, faster string improved the bows performance and essentially made it a more powerful bow, Well I had been shooting 175 grain tips so I dropped down to a 145 grain point and returned my knocking point almost to its original position and what do you know, I got some near perfect holes in the paper.
