Pronghorn Hunts

Hey All,
Just looking for some recommendations for antelope hunting with the stickbow. Im not looking for an 18" buck, just to hunt and bring some meat back and maybe, if i am lucky, a modest trophy.
What state's have good populations and you can get an OTC tag?
Any decent Outfitters that people can recommend?
Best states for a DIY hunt on public land?
Thanks for the help!

Going in late August, will let you know how it goes for sure!

I believe they can accommodate non hunters. I also spoke with the guide and will be his first traditional shooter. He said he understood my needs and is going to work for me. We'll see.

I have nothing to contribute, re: DIY hunts but
can recommend a good outfitter. Been to Spearhead Ranch twice and had great hunts both times. Hunts are from water hole blinds and I took two nice animals both times. Plenty of animals. And the Moore family is top notch as far as I'm concerned. One of the clients last Sept. took a P&Y buck. I think it measured 71+ in. so you do have the opportunity to do the same. They are there.

Spearhead Ranch or Table Mtn Outfitters in Wyoming. Any areas near Casper, Douglas are good areas.

Can't say about Table Mountain Outfitters. I have hunted at the Spearhead once and am going again this fall. It is a first class act all the way. Blinds are set up very close to waterholes for very short shots. The hunting, the food, and most of all the Moore family is tops. Can't wait to get back again.

We did a DIY 4 years ago and are heading back to WY this year. We headed out blind. Found a few waterholes in our unit and set up. My partner killed a nice buck the first day or outré hunt and I was lucky on day five. We waited till the rut was on which had us competing with the gun hunters but they never bothered us on the waterholes. Just more action and not quite as hot. Pick a unit that has lots of private land which are easy to draw with no points. Head on out and ask around. Most landowners will let you hunt goats. At least that has been our experience.

I can't say that I'd never pay an outfitter for an antelope hunt, but I doubt that I ever will. Call the Wyoming Fish and Game and they will send you a huge list of landowners that allow antelope hunting for a trespass fee. These fees run anywhere from $50 to about $400. Just call the landowner up, ask questions, find one you like and go hunting. My friends and I have done this several times and have been very successful. We got the list of names from the Gillette office I believe?

We built this platform on public land. I sat on a large cooler with a white coat. Antelope never look up, got some great photos and took a nice goat at 15 yds.
A landowner let me hunt over this water tank. Notice the chair half way up the windmill. My buddy took a nice goat from this stand.

If your wanting to hunt antelope in Colo. you might check out Ponderosa Outfitters in Eaton Co. They hunt in North Park near Walden for many different animals (deer, elk, moose, geese, antelope, etc). Bruce is a good friend of mine and a bowhunter himself for many years. You can go online and look them up.

After reading this and getting curious i checked out Full Draw Outfitters. I think hanging out with Fred would be worth the price of admission right there!

Wyoming fish and game no longer have a list of private landowners who provide antelope hunting for a trespass fee... bummer
